Let’s face it, when it comes to commercial shit, it’s fallen off harder then the hasbeens on Dancing with the Stars. 2011 looks very promising with Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf have signed to Shady Records. For those unaware, Slaughterhouse consists of Crooked I from the West, Royce Da 5’9″ from Detroit, and Joe Buddens and Joell Ortiz from the East.
Jay-Z also done big things with ROC Nation by signing J. Cole and Jay Electronica. We can’t forget about the the HRSMN aka Four Horsemen, which consists of Rass Kass, Kurupt, Killah Priest and Canibus who are all close to inking a deal with Hov. Also, the highly anticipated Detox from Dr. Dre is supposedly suppose to drop this year. Shit is about to finally pop off in 2011…
I didn’t give much care or listen these past years when it came to hip hop/rap music, but maybe this is the year for some actual good music? I mean, kanYe West blessed us at the end of 2010 with his latest release. One can only hope that it can get better.

This shit is dope! Flash based website that does various a combination of beat boxing/acapella singing. All this involves is taking presets of instruments, percussions, chorus drops, and voices and drag them into the creepy Tom Green looking fellow pictured above.

“City of God’s Son” is an experimental hip-hop opera starring Nas, Jay Z, Ghostface, Biggie Smalls, Raekwon, Samuel Jackson, Delroy Lindo, and Laurence Fishburne. It is a crime drama/coming of age tale of three fictitious characters growing up in a crime ridden city in a jungle. This project explores the icon of the gangster in modern media, and weaves musical history and gangster film history into an operatic music based story of brotherhood and survival. An homage to 90’s New York hip-hop, “City of God’s Son” is the redefinition of the remix. Featuring legendary soul singer Joe Bataan. The musical/soundscape portion of the project is available for FREE download on this site, the visual/installation is coming this summer to NY.
COMING THIS SUMMER: City of God’s Son art installation: This summer I will be creating a new form of Cinema, Theater, and Opera in an outside gallery space in NY’s Chelsea art district. There, the listener will be able to experience COGS in the form it was initially intended, as a psychedelic abstract combination of visual and audio sensory over stimulation and deprivation in a unique outdoor setting. The installation is not a literal interpretation of the narrative, but rather a space that will help drive the listeners own visualization of the story through a mix of color, live action movement and gesture, sound, and space.
The music portion can be downloaded here, Kenzo Digital presents: City of God’s Son featuring Joe Bataan
I’m curious on how this will turn out, I guess we have to wait and see this summer. It seems rather interesting. Practically a big remix with various footage of all the rappers and movies mashed into a storyline. Should be some good shit… Beat Cinematics at its finest.
Much love to the Bay on this one! Here’s Yukmouth and Numskull, da Luniz with “I Got 5 On It” from their Operation Stackola album.
The Bay Area Ballas remix was hot too, but can’t beat the reprise version. Too bad they didn’t make a video for that one.
Here’s another artistic vision from Ye, from his 808’s and Heartbreak album, here’s “Coldest Winter”
Timeless classic…
This Music Monday post goes out to the Wu Tang Clan. Starring Raekwon featuring Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah, and Method Man in “House of Flying Daggers”
It’s cool to see some of the members get together on another classic RZA Shaolin-esque beat by the late great J. Dilla. This is from Raekwon’s latest album, “Only Built For Cuban Linx Part II”
