Derek Fisher turns down Miami offer, stays with the Los Angeles Lakers!

Posted in Sports with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 12, 2010 by prolifik1

Just goes to show that the new lineup for Miami doesn’t mean shit for some. Even with a huge ass offer, Derek Fisher chose to stay with the LA Lakers. Why leave when you have a founded chemistry with familiar teammates along with 5 rings? It’s a no brainier. Thanks Derek Fisher!

“I have decided to continue with Kobe, continue with our teammates and the fans of Los Angeles,” Fisher said in a statement on his website. “While this may not be the most lucrative contract I’ve been offered this offseason, it is the most valuable. I am confident I will continue to lead this team on and off the court. Let the hunt for six begin.”

The Lakers have won two straight titles and five in Fisher’s tenure with the team. He gets a three-year deal to return, with a player option on the final year. Monetary terms were not immediately available.

The Lakers were waiting for the deal to be completed before announcing anything.

“Nothing is signed yet,” Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said. “We’re in continuous dialogue with [Fisher’s] representative and we hope to announce something soon.”

Fisher, 35, had been courted by the Miami Heat. He met with Miami president Pat Riley and owner Micky Arison at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami on Saturday morning where the Heat told him it wanted him to be its starting point guard and to join LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

“I took time to consider all my options, many not reported in the media,” Fisher said. “I listened to every coach, every general manager, even potential teammates in order to make the right decision and I thank every one of them. At the end of the day, there’s one person I could not turn away from.

“Kobe Bryant asked me to stay but supported whatever decision I made. He and I have played together for 11 seasons, came into the league together as kids, and has been loyal to me even when others had doubts. We have won five championships together.”

The Lakers had been in constant contact with Fisher and his representative Rob Pelinka since the free-agent negotiating period opened on July 1, although negotiations had proceeded slowly but amicably.

Fisher averaged 7.5 points and 2.5 assists per game last season, but he stepped up with some big shots in the playoffs, especially against the Celtics in the NBA Finals.

Los Angeles lost free agent Jordan Farmar to New Jersey on Monday, but signed Steve Blake last week. Blake likely will share playing time with Fisher.

Lakers Head Coach Phil Jackson Will Return For The 2010-11 Season

Yes! I knew Phil would comeback! It just wasn’t right to walk away just yet. Phil Jackson will return as the Los Angeles Lakers head coach for the 2010-2011 NBA season! Let the back to back title defense begin!

Los Angeles Lakers Head Coach Phil Jackson has decided to return to coach the team for the 2010-11 season, it was announced today.

“Count me in,” said Jackson. “After a couple weeks of deliberation, it is time to get back to the challenge of putting together a team that can defend its title in the 2010-11 season. It’ll be the last stand for me, and I hope a grand one.”

Jackson, who most recently guided the Lakers to the 2010 NBA Championship, their second in a row, has won five titles as head coach of the Lakers. Overall, Jackson has guided his teams to eleven NBA Championships, the most of any coach in NBA history.

A member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, Jackson established a new Lakers franchise record for regular season victories earlier this year, earning his 534th career victory with a win over the Charlotte Hornets on February 3. The fastest coach to 1,000 career victories, his total of 1,098 regular season wins ranks him fifth all-time while his .705 winning percentage is the best in league history. Additionally, Jackson ranks first all-time in NBA postseason history with a .697 winning percentage (225-98). His 225 playoff victories are also the highest postseason win total for any head coach in league history.

“We’re extremely pleased that Phil has decided to return,” said Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak. “With this most recent championship, we’ve now won five titles in the ten years he’s been our head coach and have been to the Finals in seven of those ten years, which is amazing. He’s not only the best coach for this team, but quite simply the best coach in the history of the NBA.”

Game Four Down: The Lakers head to the Western Conference Championship!!!

Posted in Sports with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 10, 2010 by prolifik1

The Lakers have wrapped the series against the Utah Jazz. They went up big and didn’t bother looking behind and put a stomping as they swept the Jazz. The Jazz put up a fight and came close in the 4th, but the Lakers managed to pull away once again.

They now head into the Western Conference Championships against the Phoenix Suns. The Lakers are now 8 wins away from defending their NBA Championship.

Laker fans rejoice!

Game Time: The Los Angeles Lakers vs the Utah Jazz – Game 4

Well folks, it’s that time once again. The Lakers can possibly end the series tonight in Salt Lake City. Laker fans, time to bust out the brooms. Probably sweep? No doubt, possible!

The Phoenix Suns stomped all over Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs! They’re now awaiting the winner of this series, which obviously can be the Lakers. In the East, it seems like the Orlando Magic can be wrapping up that series tonight too against the Atlanta Hawks. With the Boston/Cleveland series, it’s very close. I hate Lebron, so I hope the Celtics can pull it in the end!

Tune in tonight to witness whether the Lakers can turn the lights out and advance to the Western Conference Finals.

Rd2 Game Three Down: One win away from the Western Conference Finals!

Posted in Sports with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 8, 2010 by prolifik1

The Lakers pull off a win on the road! This was one very close game and a great one at that! It all came down within the last few seconds. Derek Fisher puts up a final 3 pointer to give them the lead where they were able to hold off the Jazz until the time expired.

This game was pretty much controversial, especially with the Jazz’s last possession; where Derek Fisher was tackled with no call. All good, the Lakers pulled away with a close one! One win away from making it into the Western Conference Championship.

The journey on defending the championship has gotten better.

Game 4 is on Monday in Salt Lake City at 7:30pm Pacific.
